also for remembering...

Somehow I missed the news of Jane Rule's death. There's a good obit here, by way of Alison Bechtel.

All us queer kids now stand on the shoulders of those folks who came out when coming out wasn't cool, as the saying goes, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

And that's not all. "I'm a non-believer. I don't believe in the existence of a God. I don't believe in the Christian dogma. I find it horrifyingly silly. The intolerance that flows from organized religion is the most dangerous thing on the planet."--from Freethought

I didn't know this:

Rule surprised some in the gay community by declaring herself against gay marriage, writing, "To be forced back into the heterosexual cage of coupledom is not a step forward but a step back into state-imposed definitions of relationship. With all that we have learned, we should be helping our heterosexual brothers and sisters out of their state-defined prisons, not volunteering to join them there."[2]

what do you think?

I'm not so up on "state-imposed definitions of relationships." Nor do I think laws should be used to deny folks rights.
But I totally dig Freethought - more thought, more freedom, more of the time!
